The large volcanic Vokeo Island that lies off of New Guinea's north coast has some of the finest hand drums of the Sepik Coastal area. Some, such as the present example, have narrow waists with the lower portions that bulge out into pleasing rounded volumes. This drum has extensive carved design, a handle with two zoomorphic heads and an overall thick, aged patina. The drum is missing its skin tympanum, stands 22 ¼" in height, dates to around 1910. sold
