This is an old Southern Abelam "tumbuna" hand drum with a finely carved ancestral face. The face has the clear minimal style of the Wosera area with small eyes, a long thin medial ridge for the nose ending in a diminutive mouth. The surface is glossy brown from age. Notice the erosion on one side near the top. The drum is 31 ¼" in height, dates to the 1920s and sells for $1800. Questions?
