This is an ancient, pre-contact, stone-carved wood plate from the Boiken people living in the coastal eastern end of the Prince Alexander Mountains of Papua New Guinea's East Sepik Province. The plate has a deeply cut convoluted star design on the base and a thick, encrusted and glossy patina overall. The plate is 14 ¾" in diameter, dates to the late 19th/early 20th century period and sells for $900. Questions?
