This is an ancient and very fine hand drum from Kilenge Village, West New Britain, Huon Gulf style area. The piece is at least 100 years old with the delicate openwork carving on the side opposite the handle having many old breaks. The carving on the waist of the drum is both delicate and powerfully composed with an aged glossy patina. The drum is 32" in height, dates to the late 19th century and sells for $1400. Questions?
