This is a fine and unusual Abelam drum with multiple carved ancestral figures and faces. Rarely do you see a drum so intricately carved with the full myriad of Abelam ancestral motifs. The design is fine and the colors relatively strong. Like most New Guinea drums it does not stand up straight as the drum was never meant to stand up on its own. The piece is 20 ¾" in length and dates to around 1920. sold
