This is a rare wood churinga from Australia’s Western Desert area with nice remains of white and red pigments overlaid with bird feathers. Such churingas were often used in the initiation of young men as repositories of ancestral travels and legends. The piece is 21 ¼" in height, dates to the early 20th century and sells for $2200.
