This small
and fine Papuan Gulf gope board was collected by Thomas Schultze Westrum
in 1966 from the Era River area.
The piece has a pleasing face, a design
carved in relief and nice remains of a red/orange ochre.
The board is thick
for its small size and the roughly hewn reverse is indicative of an early
carving date—probably around 1920. The piece is 30" in height. sold
