The figurative hooked spears from the Murik Lakes area of Papua New Guinea are considered the most ritually important objects. The present one has a classic Coastal Sepik face with inset eyes amid a heart-shaped face. There are nice remains of red, blue and green pigments. Formerly in the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede the spear was acquired from the Paris based dealer Anthony Meyer. The spear dates to the early 20th century, is 71 7/8” (182.7cm) in height and the price is available upon request. Questions?
