I have been fortunate to have some fantastic New Guinea cassowary bone daggers over the years and this ranks right up there with the best. It is from the Sawos culture is ancient and beautiful. The ancestral spirit face is in high relief, wonderfully rendered with a clear, engaging expression. Not only is the dagger deeply carved but the edges have been smoothed and rounded by generations of field use. There are also nice remains of red pigments. The dagger comes from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede, is probably ex. Anthony Forge, dates to the 19th century, is 13 3/8” (34.0 cm) in height and the price is available upon request. Questions?
