It is difficult to find one of these Middle Ramu River shields with such a fine cane binding still perfectly intact. This shield is ex. Lynda Cunningham and has her inventory number 3573/104 painted on the reverse. Cunningham was one of great field collectors of New Guinea art in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The shield has multiple spirit faces and traces of red pigments. It dates to the early 20th century, is 55 ¾” (141.8 cm) in height. The shield sells for $6500. Questions?
