If you are familiar with this type of shield from the Middle Ramu River you will recognize the quality of this example. It too is from the estate of the late great female field collector Lynda Cunningham. It is also published in the 1975 Myers auction catalog. The piece is pre-contact, stone-carved with a fine triangle of design in high relief cutting in to the undecorated body of the shield. The motifs are multiple variations of spirit faces. The shield dates to the early 20th century, is 49 7/8” (126.7 cm) in height and sells for $4800. Questions?
