A gifted Massim artist sure packs a lot of art in one of their great lime spatulas. This one has a beautifully composed full figure with bent back legs, arms that loop up under the chin and an alert, wide-eyed expression. The vertical columns of parallel meandering lines go up the blade and continue onto the body and limbs of the figure—even circling the face. It creates a textured surface quite unusual in the corpus of Massim art. Such a wonderful example of course made its way into the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede. This one is late 19th/early 20th century, is 17 3/8” (44.1 cm) in height and the price is available upon request. Questions?
