Well I challenge you to find an older Massim club than this one. This one was collected in the 1870s by Joshua O’Sullivan an Irish gold prospector born in Ballyhooly around 1850. This club was already in Australia by the 1880s and its family history can concretely be traced from then all the way to the present previous owner in Salt Lake City. The club itself is a beauty with the classic tri-pronged top, raised snake motif and curvinlinear designs in between that locates it to the Southern Massim area. The pommel is a wonderfully carved avian head. It is carved from the dense black palm wood and has substantial age and wear of at least 50-60 years of field use prior to it being collected. There are faint remains of red pigments. The club thus dates to the early 19th century, is 32 ¼” (81.9 cm) in height and sells for $7500. Questions?
