This is a very fine Admiralty Island figurative spear tip from the Friede and Milton Rosenthal Collection sold at Sotheby’s New York on 14 November 2008, lot 85. Since that time it has been in the excellent collection of Elizabeth Pryce in Sydney. On the spear the figure is well composed with a large head jutting out from athletic shoulders, the arms hang straight down at the ready. The ears suggest huge distended earlobes. There are strong remains of color. The piece dates to the late 19th century, stands 35 7/8” (91 cm) in height and sells for $8500. Questions?
